Important Notice on FINPLAN Email Functionality and Google/Gmail

Google ‘Basic Authentication’ Changes You Need to Know About

Google is turning off their ‘Basic Authentication’ feature as of September 30th 2024. This prevents third-party applications like FINPLAN from accessing users’ emails.

To ensure that email collection continues to function from October 1st 2024, we have made changes that allow users to continue to sync their Google emails with FINPLAN.

In order for this to happen, the owner of each individual email account using Google/Gmail will need to authorise access manually so that FINPLAN can continue to collect and send email.

Please Note: While we have implemented the necessary changes within FINPLAN to accommodate this change behind the scenes as well as provided guidance below for the steps users will need to take to re-establish the sync, Google must approve the change we’ve made. Unfortunately, this is completely at Google’s discretion. While we are hopeful the approval will take place prior to the 30th September to avoid any disruption, if the approval isn’t granted then users will be unable to follow the steps and the sync will be disabled for an interim period within FINPLAN.

If this is the case, once approval has been granted, we will contact users once again and advise that the steps can be followed and the sync re-established.

How to Re-Enable the Google <> FINPLAN Sync

N/B: The below process is only required for Google email services. Services from other email providers are not affected.

1. Navigate to View > Email Accounts.

2. Double-click the Google email account for which you want to authorise email collection. These will normally have a ‘Service Type’ of ‘Google Mail (Gmail)’.
